JP Solis is one of a kind among an evolving breed of interGenre DJs who snuck into the party scene at the turn of the millenium, when greater diversity in public tastes called for wider range and more versatility from DJs.

With both parents in the business of booking bands in Asia, the Middle East and Europe, JP grew up with hotel lobbies as his playground; drums, keyboards, and other musical instruments as his toys; and, not least, lots and lots of music - jazz, old standards, pop, RnB, british rock - in dark, loud smoky rooms.

JP caught the House bug in 1993, at the tender age of 12, from live mix tapes of the New York House sound that his dad played at home, in the car's booming system, and - it seemed to JP - his every waking hour.

As soon as he turned 18, he started going to Twilo on Friday nights, and after high school, JP linked up with Tease-NYC's Mike Canino, who gave him his first break at DJ'ing.

JP cut his teeth working at Satellite Records - listening hundreds of records daily. Working the House section of the sales floor allowed him to rub elbows with store regulars like Francois K, Danny Tenaglia, Armand Van Helden, & Miguel Migs. In 2003, JP joined Crobar as an intern and quickly worked his way to Assistant Music Director.

JP joined Crobar in 2003, six months before it opened in New York, and worked his way from intern to then Music Director David Waxman's assistant. JP now plays the club's special events and opens for resident DJs.

His musical range and technical ability have placed him alongside the likes of Sasha, Deep Dish, Sander Kleinenberg, Roger Sanchez, and Derrick Carter. And JP has proven himself to be a versatile on-the-spot party rocker, from tagging with DJ AM to open for the Black Eyed Peas to premiers and product launches for the likes of MTV, VH-1, HBO, Paramount Pictures, & Warner Brothers.

When he is not wrecking the decks, he is an instructor at New York’s premier music production and DJ school, Dubspot.
